My kitchen counters were a disaster zone. Fruit scattered everywhere, spice jars taking over precious prep space, and don’t even get me started on where I was keeping my snacks. When I saw this 2-tier wire storage rack on AliExpress, I figured for the price it was worth a shot.
Turns out it was one of those purchases that actually makes your daily life noticeably better.
Why I Needed This Thing
I cook a lot, and my kitchen isn’t huge. Counter space is premium real estate, but somehow I’d let random stuff colonize every available surface. Bananas on the windowsill, onions in a random bowl, and spice bottles creating a maze around my coffee maker.
I’d tried those hanging fruit baskets before, but they swing around and get in the way. Needed something that would actually organize my stuff without taking up even more space.
What Actually Arrived
Took about 2.5 weeks to get here, which is pretty standard. Came in a flat box; the whole thing assembles, which I wasn’t expecting from the photos.
I ordered the black one because my kitchen has mostly dark hardware, but they also make it in white. The metal is thicker than I thought it would be, not flimsy at all. Has some weight to it, which ended up being good for stability.
Assembly Reality Check
The product photos make it look like it just exists fully formed, but you do have to put it together. Not complicated maybe 10 minutes with the included tools. Just connecting the frame pieces and attaching the baskets.
The instructions were… well, they were mostly pictures. But it’s pretty intuitive. My only complaint is that some of the connection points were a bit tight and required more force than I expected.
Real Kitchen Testing
I’ve been using this thing for about 5 months now, so here’s what actually works and what doesn’t:
What I store in it:
- Top basket: Whatever fruit I’m eating that week (apples, bananas, oranges)
- Bottom basket: Changes depending on what I’m cooking sometimes onions and potatoes, sometimes snacks, sometimes spice containers
The open wire design is actually smart. Fruit gets air circulation so it stays fresh longer. Way better than those solid bowls where stuff gets moldy.
The Removable Basket Feature
This ended up being more useful than I expected. You can lift out either basket and take it with you, like when I’m meal prepping and need to carry a bunch of stuff to the counter.
Also nice for cleaning. Pop out a basket, dump everything out, and wipe it down. Takes 30 seconds instead of trying to clean around everything.
Space Efficiency Test
This was the big question: does it actually save space or just organize the mess differently?
Before: Fruit bowl, separate snack area, spices scattered around = took up about 2 feet of linear counter space
After: Everything stacked vertically in about 10 inches of counter space
So yeah, it definitely frees up counter area. The vertical design makes way more sense than spreading everything out horizontally.
Build Quality After 5 Months
The metal frame is holding up great. No rust, no wobbling, no bent wires. I’ve loaded it pretty heavy sometimes, and it handles the weight fine.
The black coating has held up well too. I was worried it might chip or scratch easily, but it still looks basically new despite daily use and regular washing.
What Fits and What Doesn’t
Works great for:
- Most fruits (except maybe huge melons)
- Root vegetables like onions, potatoes, garlic
- Snack bags and boxes
- Spice jars and small containers
- Even kitchen towels and napkins
Doesn’t work well for:
- Really large items (watermelon, big bags of stuff)
- Things that might fall through the wire gaps
- Super heavy items (I wouldn’t load it with canned goods.)
Color Choice: Black vs White
I went with black, and I’m happy with it, but I’ve seen the white version at a friend’s house. Both look good; it just depends on your kitchen style:
Black: Hides fingerprints and minor scratches better, looks more modern/industrial White: Brighter, matches white appliances, shows dust more easily
Price vs Alternatives
I paid about $15 for this. Similar things at Target or kitchen stores run $35-50. Even if this only lasts a couple years (and it seems like it’ll go longer), that’s still way better value.
The closest thing I found locally was a bamboo version for $40 that honestly didn’t look as sturdy.
Unexpected Uses
Once I had it, I started using it for stuff I didn’t originally plan:
- Holiday cookie storage (in containers)
- Extra dish towels and napkins
- Organizing breakfast stuff (cereal, granola bars)
- Temporary storage when I’m cooking big meals
It’s one of those things that becomes more useful the longer you have it.
What Could Be Better
The assembly: Not hard, but the instructions could be clearer. A couple of connection points were harder to line up than they should be.
Wire spacing: Very small items can fall through. Not a big deal for most stuff, but cherry tomatoes or grapes might slip through.
Base footprint: Takes up more depth than it looks like in photos. Make sure you have about 12 inches of counter depth.
Daily Life Impact
This is one of those purchases that seems small but actually improves your routine. My kitchen feels more organized, I can find stuff easier, and I have more prep space for actual cooking.
Also looks way more put-together than having random fruit scattered around. When people come over, the kitchen actually looks intentional instead of chaotic.

Bottom Line
For $15, this solved a real problem in my kitchen. It’s not revolutionary, but it’s well-made, practical, and does exactly what it promises.
The removable baskets are genuinely useful, the build quality is solid, and it freed up a surprising amount of counter space. I’d buy it again, and I’m actually thinking about getting a second one for my pantry area.
My rating: 4.3 out of 5. Great value, solid construction, genuinely useful. The only minor complaints are the assembly process and some small items falling through the wires.
Would I recommend it? Yeah, especially if your kitchen counters are as chaotic as mine were. It’s not going to change your life, but it’ll definitely make your kitchen more functional.
